Camera bodies

Nikon Z8Nikon Z8

The flagship-level body in my bag. Fast autofocus, a 45.7MP sensor with room to crop, and 8K video for the jobs that ask for it.

Nikon Z6 IIINikon Z6 III

My video-friendly workhorse. 24.5MP is plenty for real estate and event work, and dual native ISO in N-Log makes low light a lot easier.

Nikon ZfNikon Zf

The one I grab when I want something lighter and more fun to shoot. Full-frame quality and in-body stabilization behind retro dials.

Wide to standard

Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 SNikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S

The lens I reach for on real estate interiors. It gets wide enough for a tight bathroom, stays sharp into the corners, and unlike most ultra-wides it takes regular screw-on filters.

Nikon Z 24mm f/1.8 SNikon Z 24mm f/1.8 S

Sharp, fast and light for what it is. A good fit for interiors, architecture and low-light video when 35mm feels too tight.

Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 SNikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S

My do-everything zoom. Constant f/4, sharp across the range, and the one I trust when I don't know what the day will throw at me.

Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8

A pancake lens that weighs 125 grams. It turns the Zf or Z6 III into something you can carry all day without noticing.

Nikon Z 35mm f/1.4Nikon Z 35mm f/1.4

The classic 35 for environmental portraits and video b-roll. The f/1.4 aperture separates the subject nicely, and it costs a lot less than the S-line glass.

Nikon Z 40mm f/2 SENikon Z 40mm f/2 SE

Tiny, cheap and fun. The SE version is styled to match the Zf, and 40mm is close enough to a natural view that it rarely feels wrong.

Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 SNikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S

The nifty fifty done right. Sharp wide open, quiet for video, and good for just about anything.

Portrait and macro

Nikon Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR SNikon Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S

True 1:1 macro with stabilization. Good for detail shots, small products, and flowers or insects when I'm out hiking.

Nikon Z 135mm f/1.8 S PlenaNikon Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena

Big, heavy and worth it. The compression and background blur at f/1.8 are hard to get any other way, and it's sharp wide open.

Telephoto

Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2

A fast telephoto zoom at a price that doesn't sting. f/2.8 the whole way, stabilized, and light enough at 855 grams to carry all day.

Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXDTamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD

A light, inexpensive telephoto. At 545 grams it's the one I pack when weight matters more than aperture.

Nikon Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR SNikon Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S

My main long lens for wildlife and outdoor work. Sharp at 400mm, strong stabilization, and it works with both Nikon teleconverters.

Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VRNikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR

The lens I bring for birds and wildlife that won't let me get close. It zooms internally, so it stays balanced on a monopod, and 600mm costs far less here than it does in a fixed supertelephoto.

Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4xNikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x

Turns the 100-400 into a 140-560mm lens. It costs a little light, but it's small enough to leave in the bag for the days I need the reach.
